Rho
crimes and manslaughter INJURY
Hospital Rho, the department accused
Gauze tumors in the abdomen and ignored
survey in twenty cases and two deaths in one year. Initiated interrogation. The incidents in general surgery
Hospital Rho (Frame) Mr. F. enter the hospital for a colonoscopy, a routine, suggested by the health system for prevention. To end of the examination the doctors assured him they have only taken a 'octopus'. Not to worry. The next day Mr. F. however, is ill. Back at the hospital. It is urgent reoperation: During the first examination had been perforated colon. Over the following months, to repair the damage of the first and second operation will end in the operating room three more times. Today the hospital has changed. He went to court for a complaint (because of the damage has even risked losing their jobs). It is collecting complaints like that of Mr. F. that the Milan prosecutors opened an investigation into a score of serious allegations of malpractice that occurred last year and a half in the fifth department of General Surgery Rho, near Milan. Posts
wrong and rebuilt, without giving adequate information to patients, diagnosis unpacked; transactions made without the necessary examinations, at least a couple of suspicious deaths; management 'casual' of informed consent that patients must sign before each operation. The investigation was entrusted to the police station in Rho-Pero. For now, the file may be against persons unknown, but heavy elements of an offense are: injury and wrongful death, plus a series of administrative offenses.
In the survey cards are reconstructed stories like that of Mr. A., 44. Is operated in November 2009, but three months later in great pain. Re-enter the operating room and there you find that during the first surgery the doctor had left gauze in patient's body (the file there is a similar case). Then there is the case with the old lady G., 96 years, which in October 2010 is taken to the hospital for a check of Rho breast on the advice of doctors. A quick visit to the breast specialist confirms the presence of a tumor and the woman ends up under the knife. But relatives say that there were other tests before surgery, and who have never had information on the outcome of the investigation histology. Family members must sign a new complaint. Even more serious is what happened to Mrs. C., 76 years operated on for cancer of the breast, the part is removed lymph nodes. Only after the histological examination it turns out that the lymph nodes removed were malignant. The lady is forced to a second operation.
Interrogations are going on these days. Investigators of the Commissioner Rho-Pero have collected all reports, went to hospital to seize medical records relating to the interventions in the Department of Surgery 5 (led by primary Anthony Pallino) and individual events are then reconstructed through the testimonies of the sick or their families. They were questioned as witnesses (there are no suspects) most of the doctors and nurses. Testimonials
that could include the story of Mrs. G., 39, a woman with serious social problems. She was admitted in March 2010, surgery for acute appendicitis and released a few days later, although his condition is not good. The woman did not help and a few days wandering the streets of Rho, to enter desperate in that municipality, with the wound still bleeding. Fighters reported in the emergency room for admission. And the whole thing ends up in the local newspaper of Rho, Settegiorni.
More or less the same days, always in that department, died on Mr. M., 41. Sick of colon cancer, was made, and a few days later, still weakened for the first action is taken to the operating room two more times to acute peritonitis. The investigation will determine what the cause of death and whether doctors have followed the correct protocols. The application file held by the public prosecutor Maura Ripamonti are also reconstructed the stories of two other alleged victims of mistaken diagnoses that required remedial action after the first operation. Both of these patients, in front of police officers, have signed new complaints against the hospital in Rho.
